…and fools seldom differ.
I want to extend a warm welcome to 12Novels (http://12novels.com). Welcome the outrageously ridiculous circle of writers who have attempted/are attempting to write 12 novels in a year. I wish you all the best in your year of literary greatness. Trust me, it goes by much too quickly.
As I’ve read through her blog it’s inspired me to get back into my own work. Life is too short and it can take a turn much too quickly to fritter away any more time with speculation, uncertainty, or laziness. It’s time to take control, people! *Rousing cheer after the pep talk*
The story’s gotten off to a slow start because I really haven’t done any work on it. Honestly, how do I expect to get anything accomplished if I don’t sit down and put in the effort this needs. I just ned to sit down and work on the story. I miss the thrill of chasing down an idea and the satisfaction of writing. I also almost miss the ache in my little forearm extensor muscles (the ones on my back of my forearms) as they work to keep my fingers flying over the keyboard. Most of all, I miss the creativity.
So here I am, I should be at around 18,000 words and I’ve barely scratched the surface. The game plan at this point is to just get things down. I wish I had the trouble in the past about perfecting things. 50,000 may sound like a lot before you start thinking about story arc, development, and characterization but at the end of the day, it’s still a lot. And trust me, it’s a lot easier to pad the story than it is to streamline it. So if in doubt, write that scene that you’re pretty sure will be taken out because you never know. It could be the pivotal moment in your story.
[…] lovely writerly lady is over at 12novelsin12months.com. She’s working hard and has gotten so far into this and is absolutely, truly inspiring. I also […]
Thank you so much! I’ve been really lagging in my word count for months now so I don’t consider myself a novel-a-month contender anymore. I’m more of a we’ll-see-how-this-month-goes-with-fingers-crossed kind of writer at this point. *grumble*
And thank *you*! It’s such a relief in some ways to know there are at least two people out there who know what it’s like to even attempt something like this (and I so get the forearm soreness thing too).
I for one think of you still as a novel-a-month writer even if you don’t. You’re still on the journey, and as far as I can tell you’ve been going through it the best you can – something valuable is happening even if the words aren’t rolling out, right?
I’ve been massively behind this month so far, but it’s getting better. Anyway, I look forward to our parallel adventures.
Thank you! To be honest, most days I don’t even write. It’s hard to call yourself a writer if you’re working on your craft. I decided to shake things up and not attempt a novel per se this month. Maybe I just need to think outside this box for a while!
I’m looking forward to hearing of your adventures. Good luck with your work this month; I found a great incentive to get things done is the promise of a massage at the end of the month. Absolute bliss!
